Albert Lea, Minn. (Monday, Nov. 12, 2018)—The Diesel Technology Program at Riverland Community College has a Mack Truck-sized addition to its technician shop. On November 5th, Rochester-based Nuss Truck & Equipment donated a Mack Pinnacle sleeper semi-truck for hands-on learning and interactive course work.
Nuss formally presented the truck Monday to Riverland diesel technology students, staff and administration. The day’s program also included a presentation from Nuss executives highlighting the trucking service industry, technological advancements, and the great need for diesel technicians in the work force now and in the future.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 75,000 new mechanics will be needed to meet additional demand by 2022. “Programs like Riverland’s support the trucking industry and fill the jobs that move America,” said Nuss Truck & Equipment President Bob Nuss. “This is not just a donation. This is an investment in our future.”
As a part of its commitment to education in the trades, Nuss also gave a scholarship to a Riverland diesel technology student earlier this year. “We are so grateful to Nuss Truck & Equipment for the donations they have made to our truck diesel program this year,” says Janelle, Koepke, dean of institutional advancement. “By donating scholarships and the semi-truck, they are showing our students how important their training is to the trucking industry as a whole.”
