Meet Connor, a new service technician in Mankato.
What inspired you to join the team here? I was in tech school in Albert Lea and they had a Nuss visit on career day, I liked what I saw, so I applied and now I’m here.
What was the name of the school you attended? Riverland Community College in Albert Lea.
How do you think Riverland prepared you to do your job? They gave me the groundwork and all the basic stuff and then once you get into the shop they teach you more advanced stuff.
Would you recommend the diesel technician program at Riverland to other technicians who want to go through the program? Yeah, there are some pretty good guys down there.
What do you love, so far, most about your job? The factor is that it feels rewarding when something gets fixed and goes out the door and the customer is happy.
What do you think your career goals will be? Stay here and become a better technician.
What do you think will set you apart in your field? I always get here early and I do whatever it takes to get the job right.
How did you decide to pursue a career as a diesel technician? I came from a family line. My grandpa on my dads side is a diesel tech so I decided what I wanted to do.
What would you say to someone who is considering working at Nuss? It’s a good place to start and they’ll help you out when you’re just getting going.
What challenges have you run into here or at school or working here that you’ve had to work through? There’s a lot of new things you have to learn.
What do you think is the most important skill that a diesel technician needs to have? Determination and logical thinking. Lots of troubleshooting and just thinking logically.
Tell us about your family. I have my mom, dad, and sister. We grew up in Owatonna and moved to Waseca.
Where did you go to high school? Owatonna High School.
What do you like to do outside of work? Hang out with friends and help out on the farm.
What kind of farm is it? It’s my friend’s farm. They have cattle and crops.
So what do you have to do on the farm? I’m mostly around the cattle and he does the crop stuff.
What would your perfect weekend look like? Going to a Wild game Saturday and chill-laxing on Sunday.
Who would you say are some of your biggest influences? My parents always tell me that you can only better yourself and chase your dreams.
What are your favorite local spots to hang out in Mankato? I don’t come to Mankato too often.
What are you looking forward to this week? Continuing to work my way up and learn more.
